You will find that wireless lavalier mics come in two types: Cardioid or Omni(directional). Cardioid mics are most often used when the signal is being amplified as they are more resistant to feedback, whereas Omni lavalier mics are better for recording and where a more natural response is needed. Omni mics can be used where feedback control is available and for larger venues where the speaker system is sufficiently far away from the mic itself.
