Beyerdynamic have been manufacturing high quality mics and headphones since 1924 and are without doubt one of the premium suppliers.
The Beyerdynamic MC 930 is a cardioid condenser mic particularly suitable for professional instrumental recording or orchestral amplification.
The MC 930 is suitable for miking choirs, orchestras and solo instruments. Due to the switchable pre-attenuation of 15 dB it provides excellent performance at high sound pressure levels. The switchable bass roll-off filter with 6 dB/Octave at 250 Hz compensates for proximity effects. With the WS 101 wind screen the MC 930 can be used for vocal applications and speech. The MC 930 is phantom powered (11 - 52 V) and is suitable for live applications and installations.
Due to its cardioid polar pattern, the MC 930 has a high-gain-before feedback and eliminates noise from the rear. It is not only a first-class tool for studios, but also for sound contracting systems, where excellent sound and maximum gain-before-feedback is required.

I use the Beyer MC930 a lot to achieve natural-sounding recordings of acoustic instruments. It produces a less coloured sound when compared directly with the AKG C414B-XLS that I also own. Its limitation is that the SNR is 71dB compared to 88dB with the C414, but it is still a decent performance and fine for most sources. Those two characteristics (more accurate, slightly more noisy) are both typical of a good small diaphragm capacitor/condenser mic compared to a good large diaphragm capacitor/condenser mic. Similar effects were noted when comparing the MC930 with a Neumann U87Ai on acoustic guitar, where the MC930 clearly produced a more realistic/naturalistic recording. It all depends on what type of result you are hoping for, but I am very happy with my purchase; in fact I own a pair for 2 channel stereo recordings.
