Unusual for a microphone of this quality, the Clarion features both a 10dB gain and pad setting, allowing the engineer to match the microphone to pre-amp stage to suit a variety of situations. Switching in the gain delivers a presence from the mic which is perfect for voiceovers and intimate vocal recordings. Push the switch the other way to introduce the pad and the qualities of your pre-amp are allowed to shine, as well as allowing the mic to cope with high-volume sources.
The mic features a switchable polar-pattern to allow the engineer to choose between cardioid, omnidirectional or figure-8 reponse. This is perfect for being able to allow just the right amount of room ambience to compliment the subject recording.
